چکیده

The progress in the development of the new international Gerda (GErmanium Detector Array) experiment is presented. Main purpose of the experiment is to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay of Ge. The experimental set up is under construction in the underground laboratory of LNGS. Gerda will operate with bare germanium semiconductor detectors (enriched in Ge) situated in liquid argon. In the Phase I the existing enriched detectors from the previous Heidelberg-Moscow and IGEX experiments are employed, in the Phase II the new segmented detectors made from recently produced enriched material will be added. Novel concepts for background suppression including detector segmentation and anti-coincidence with LAr scintillation are developed.

Search for neutrinoless double-beta decay of Ge-76 with GERDA

Gerda, the GERmanium Detector Array experiment, is a new double beta-decay experiment which is currently under construction in the INFN National Gran Sasso Laboratory (Lngs), Italy. It is implementing a new shielding concept by operating bare Ge diodes enriched in Ge-76 in high purity liquid argon supplemented by a water shield. The aim of Gerda is to verify or refute the recent claim of discov...

Highly sensitive gamma - spectrometers of GERDA for material screening : Part I

The GERDA experiment aims to search for the neutrinoless double beta-decay of 76 Ge and possibly for other rare processes. The sensitivity of the first phase is envisioned to be more than one order of magnitude better than in previous 0νββ-decay experiments. This implies that materials with ultra-low radioactive contamination need to be used for the construction of the detector and its shieldin...

Search for neutrinoless double beta decay of 76Ge with the GERmanium Detector Array "GERDA"

The study of neutrinoless double beta decay (DBD) is the only one presently known approach to the fundamental question if the neutrino is a Majorana particle, i.e. its own anti-particle. The observation of neutrinoless DBD would not only establish the Majorana nature of the neutrino but also represent a determination of its effective mass if the nuclear matrix element is given. So far, the most...

Operation of a GERDA Phase I prototype detector in liquid argon and nitrogen

The GERDA (GERmanium Detector Array) experiment aiming to search for the neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ) of Ge at the Laboratori Nazionali Del Gran Sasso (LNGS), Italy, will operate bare enriched high-purity germanium (HPGe) detectors in liquid argon. GERDA Phase I will use the enriched diodes from the previous Heidelberg-Moscow (HdM) and IGEX experiments. With the HPGe detectors mounted ...

Search for Double Beta Decay with Hpge Detectors at the Gran Sasso Underground Laboratory

Neutrinoless double-beta (0νββ) decay is practically the only way to establish the Majorana nature of the neutrino mass and its decay rate provides a probe of an effective neutrino mass. Double beta experiments are long-running underground experiments with specific challenges concerning the background reduction and the long term stability. These problems are addressed in this work for the Heide...
